How man rejects chief priest offer, run for dear life
The story of one Destiny Nosakhare Uwumarogie of Christian faithful in a remote village of Edo state is that of pity and one wonders if tradition supersedes individual fundamental human right.
A reliable source has disclosed that Destiny Nosakhare Uwumarogie have fled the country to united State with his wife, Mercy Nosakhare after undergoing several treat and unbearable trauma in the hands of some traditional chiefs in his village that want to impose the position of chief priest on him.
It was gathered that Destiny Nosakhare Uwumarogie father, Chief Uwumarogie was the chief priest of Okaligban shrine of Uhen village, in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, South South Nigeria.
Following Chief Uwumarogie death in 1998, Destiny’s elder brother, (name withheld) took over as the Chief Priest in place of his late father but about 20 years later, specifically in 2018, Destiny’s elder brother pass on unfortunately without an heir to take over priesthood.
In view of this development, tradition demands that Destiny should be next in line to take over the position of the Chief Priest. Destiny however rejected the offer bluntly because on the ground that he’s a Christian and he cannot compromise his faith, even to point of death.
It was gathered that Destiny’s refusal leads to religion crisis in the village (Uhen, Ovia North East) between the Christian youths and the pagan which eventually claimed five lives and others injured.
In the process, Destiny was accused of instigating the Christian youth, against the village tradition. Although he ran away from the village, he was declared wanted with series of threats against him, his family and business. It was also gathered that Destiny his once miraculously escaped assassination and kidnaping, a development that prompted him and his to fly to the USA for safety of their lives, since it was obvious to them that their life was no longer safe in Nigeria.
