Ondo Deputy Speaker, Ogundeji impeached

The Deputy Speaker, Iroju Ogundeji, has been impeached by the Assembly for alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.

This is coming barely 24 hours after the Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kolawole Olawoye, was sacked.

Iroju, who represents Odigbo Constituency II, was impeached at the plenary session on Tuesday and immediately replaced by Tona Aderotoye from Odigbo Constituency I.

It was gathered that the impeachment was signed by 20 out of 26 lawmakers of the Assembly.

Sources said his impeachment may not be unconnected to the botched attempts to impeach the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi. Ogundeji was among the nine lawmakers who did not sign the impeachment notice against the embattled deputy governor.

He was suspended indefinitely by the House for unruly behavior and later reinstated by a Federal High Court in Akure, the state capital.
