Oyo/Osun Customs Command Gets New Controller, as Controller Aliyu Takes Over

The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, witnessed a change of leadership as Comptroller Joseph Olugbuyi Adelaja (Rtd) officially handed over to Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu as the new Customs Area Controller.

At a brief but colourful ceremony in Ibadan, Adelaja, who retired from active service, thanked the Service management, officers, and men of the Command for their cooperation during his tenure. He listed achievements recorded under his watch, including improvements in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations, and welfare facilities. He noted that challenges of electricity supply in the barracks were resolved, while solar systems were installed at the mosque and church within the premises. He urged officers and stakeholders to extend similar support to his successor.

In his maiden address, Comptroller Aliyu expressed appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Service management for entrusting him with the role. He commended his predecessor’s efforts and promised to consolidate on them. According to him, his administration will prioritize revenue generation, intelligence-driven anti-smuggling operations, and officers’ welfare backed with strict discipline.

Aliyu also called for the cooperation of officers, stakeholders, sister agencies, and host communities to ensure greater successes for the Command.

The event was attended by senior officers of the Command and heads of units.
