ICSS Alumni Urge Sanwo-Olu to complete abandoned school Buildings

As Itire Community Secondary School (ICSS) Iyana-Itire, Lagos State has continued to float without a permanent location, the 1992 Class has appealed to the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to come to the aid of the school and complete work on the school’s abandoned permanent site.

The Factual Nigeria visit to the school’s permanent site shows that the work is already at the roofing stage but has been abandoned for long and as of the time of this report, the school is running in a borrowed premises of another school, hence the old students of the school are calling on Sanwo-Olu to complete the project so as to stabilise the school.

The school alumni made the appeal recently during the celebration of their 30th years of graduation from the school, where they gathered at the borrowed premises of the school to celebrate with the current pupils and teachers in the school.

The 1992 Class used the occasion to present tables, chairs, white boards, exercise books and drugs to the school as a way of giving back to the school.

“We are calling on the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Sanwo-Olu to help us continue work on the school’s abandoned permanent site and complete it without further delay, and I am sure this community will appreciate it by voting for him again because he has done very well for the people of Lagos”, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr. Nurudeen Adeola Salami said at the event.

He added that the 1992 Class decided to make presentations to the school as a way of giving back. He expressed appreciation to the past and present teachers of the school while urging them to continue to give their best to the school. Salami also urges the pupils to face their study, saying education is very vital to get to the top.

Also speaking at the event, the president of Class 92, Mrs. Alero Adegbuyi also expressed concern over the school’s abandoned permanent site and hope work would resume on the site in no distant time to enable the pupils return to the school permanent site.

While addressing the pupils on self esteem, a member of the 1992 Class, Mrs. Omolara Olayide enjoined the pupils to believe and have confidence in themselves, stating that they should not allow anybody to intimidate them. She charged the pupils to pursue whatever goals they have set for their lives.

Expressing appreciation to the class 92, the School principal Mrs. Atinuke Opeagba called on other graduands of the school to emulate the Class 92 by giving back to the school, saying the school is in need of many things.

In recognition of his dedication and positive impact in their lives while they were still in the school, the Class 92 used the occasion to present award to the then government teacher, Mr. Innocent Umahi. The old students described Mr. Umahi as a discipline teacher who contributed immensely to whatever they have become today.

Mr. Umahi expressed appreciation to the old students for recognising his contribution to their lives. The head boy and head girl of the school also expressed appreciation to their seniors for giving back to the school, even as they equally look forward to emulate the Class 92 in future.
