FUEL SCARCITY: Edo Assembly Sets up Adhoc Committee to Monitor Petroleum Products
As the fuel scarcity has continued to linger across the country, Edo State House of Assembly has set up ad-hoc committee to work with state government committee in monitoring of petroleum products in the state to avoid diversion.
Edo state House of Assembly made this resolution during plenary on Monday after the house received a petition from Protesting Civil Society Organizations,in collaborations with the National Association of Nigerian students, coalition of Benin socio- cultural organizations and other stakeholders,who were at the House to express their displeasure at the incessant fuel pump price hike.
Speaker Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun ksc said the house feels the pain of the populace in the face of the continued increase in the pump price of petrol as the scarcity is biting hard on all Edo people.
The speaker however directed the clerk of the house Alhaji Yahaya Audu omogbai to read the communique presented to the house by the protesting Edo’s,the petition signed by Comrade Osunbor Kelly Omokaro , decried the hardship faced by Edo people over the artificial scarcity and unwarranted hike in the price of petrol in Edo state as against the pump price of between #187 to #250 in Abuja,Lagos and Other states ,while in Edo state it is sold at between #350and #800 a situation that has increased the hardship and increase in goods and services faced by the people.
They however called for the setting up of a Task Force to monitor the distribution of the fuel to alleviate the hardship in the state.
In response, Speaker Edo state House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun ksc set up a four(4) man an adhoc committee chaired by the member representing orhionmwon East Hon
Nosayaba Okunbor,which has the member representing Orhionmwon south Rt.Hon Roland Asoro, the member representing Esan South East Hon.Sunny Ojezele and the member representing Akoko Edo Hon. Emma Agbaje as members.
The adhoc committee is to interface with the ministry of oil and gas ,to ensure the reduction in pump price,stop hoarding and diversion of petrol in Edo state.
Rt.Hon. Marcus Onobun Stated that as a people oriented house the pains of the electorate is Paramount and as such necessary action would be taken to ensure Edo indigenes and residents heave a sigh of relief.
The speaker also informed the house of the Meeting between the commissioner for youths and humanitarian affairs Barr. Adaze Enwanta over the national youths council elections and he has been directed to meet with the relevant committee to clear the grey areas.
Before adjourning to February 28th 2023 , the Students of life guard international School who were in the gallery to observe plenary were introduced.
Earlier the Speaker and other honourable members had received the peaceful protesters who presented their petition to the House
