Jiya Kolo Charges Students on Godly Virtues, as Crawford University matriculates 565
In continuation of its academic excellence, Crawford University, Igbesa, Ogun state recently matriculated over 565 fresh undergraduate and postgraduate students admitted into the University for 2022/2023 academic session.
The matriculated students were admitted into the Colleges of Business and Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, College of Arts and Communication Studies, School of Part-Time Studies and School of Post Graduate Studies of the university.
While speaking at the epoch making event, The Vice Chancellor, Professor Reuben Jiya Kolo congratulated the students for scaling JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). He charged the matriculants to be of good behavior and conduct throughout their stay in the school. While speaking further, he encouraged the students to key into the godly virtues of the University and its motto: “Knowledge with Godliness”.
Crawford University is one of the top notch private Universities in Nigeria and the vision behind the establishment of the University is to be a centre of excellence, producing graduates with balanced education and with a robust and life imparting core values of Godliness, intellectualism, integrity, entrepreneurship and community.
”The University rules and regulations you are expected to obey are not burdensome. They are designed to build you up as a good citizen, not only of Crawford University but of Nigeria and the global community. Your compliance with extant rules will pay off handsomely now and in the future. For Psalm 119:11 says; Thy Word have I hid in mine heart that I may not sin against thee”. “Our synonym to that in Crawford University is “Thy rules and thy tenents will I obey so that I will not face any sanction in Crawford University”
Speaking further, the VC said anyone found guilty of any misconduct will be sanctioned. He said “your new status as student of Crawford University imposes on you greater responsibilities than ever before. You are therefore required to dress decently in line with the University Dress Code at all times, comport yourself both within and outside the University”.
Prof. Jiya Kolo also charged the Postgraduate students to tailor their research works to proffer solution to societal problems.
He said “I urge you to tailor your research work to proffer solution to societal problems; your research should lead to original contribution to knowledge. Originality is the hallmark of scientific research; as pointed out by the physics Nobel laureate, Ernst Lawrence that “creative thinking demands seeing things not seen previously, or in ways not previously imagined” and in one of African Proverbs “tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today”, let your research provide novel solutions to challenges of humanity”.
Prof. Kolo said “this University will not condone indiscipline, bullying, fighting, laziness or any form of social vices or immoralities on the part of any student. Hardworking is the hallmark of good success. Good students should be law abiding and must be up and doing. They also do not involve themselves in any act of lawlessness. The University values its stamp and logo, which are to be imprinted on your certificates after the end of your programmes. As a result, the University would be delighted to award its certificates to deserving students.
The VC encouraged all students to take advantage of the facilities and activities available in the University within serene and quiet environment, world-class library, including e-library resources, Internet connectivity, ICT laboratory, Chapel activities and more importantly highly efficient, experienced and dedicated academic and non-academic workforce.
