Residents run for safety as community land tussle escalates

For residents of Oghede and Ahgawigie communities in Ovia North Local Government of Edo State, this may not be a good time as a land dispute has unsettled them, such that everybody is scampering for safety.

Our correspondent in Benin learnt that the fighting over the land matter in the two communities started sometimes around 2015 but took another twist recently when those at the forefront of the fight went violent.

According to our correspondent, the details of the land matters is still sketchy as of the time of this report, he gathered that some families in both communities are also involved in the matter, with each community claiming ownership of an expanse of a portion of land adjoining them.

Our correspondent reports that the fight became serious on January 22, 2023, leading to killings and destruction of properties, a development that has made some of the citizens to run for their lives because their lives are at serious risk.
