Lagos CP warns thugs, hoodlums against attack on police officers
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, has said that attack on any of his officers by hoodlums, thugs, Cults or anybody, will no longer be tolerated.
CP Owohunwa consequently warned that he will use all legal means to deal with whoever that attack him men and officers in the course of carrying out their constitutional duties.
The Police Commissioner gave the warning while responding to questions during his familiarization visit to the men and officers and members of Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) of the Area ‘C’ Command, last week.
Giving the warning, CP Owohunwa said: “in the course of enforcing okada ban, some of our officers have paid supreme prize, this did not disuade us rather.
“I wants to say that anybody under any criminal guise, whether cultism, whether okada, whether local urchin, that raises his or her hands unjustly on my Policemen in the line of their duty, and if it involves the lives of any of my officers, we are going to use constitutional to protect their lives and ensure that Justice is done, either on the street or in the court.”
Welcoming the CP Owohunwa to the Command, the Area Commander, Mr. Adedeji Adefolarin, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), thanked the commissioner for visiting his Command, which he described as the foeemost among the Commands in the State.
ACP Adefolarin, who told the CP that upon his assumption of office, he has been able to put in place philosophical strategy in which the security approach within area Command will has led to predicated on the robust Community partnership that will available with the needed Intelligence information about criminals and its activities use the event, however appealed to the Commissioner for assistance in the are of more personnel and operational vehicles, which he said would go along way to assist his command in policing the area effectively.
Also, the National Vice-chairman (southwest) of PCRC, Prince Sunny Yemi Adenowo, said the CP’s visit to the Command, would afford him the opportunity to know much about the strong collaborative efforts between the Police and Community members. Adding that as far as Area C Command is concerned, both the Police and the Community are partners in the business of security and safety.
He stated further that the CP’s familiarization visit is a moral booster and tonic for both Police officers and Community members to further keep the momentum and do more to ensure that crime is reduced to the bearest minimum within the Area C Command jurisdiction and by extension Lagos State Command
Prince Adenowo assured the Police Commissioner that he will always be available anytime needed to support in my capacity and ensure that your stay in Lagos State will turn out to be the best among the best.
In his words, the Chairman Area Command of PCRC, Rotation Akibu Bankole, also described the Police Commissioner visit to the Area Command as an opportunity to discuss sensitive issues as it relates to the security within the Area Command. Adding that
Rotarian Bankole who involved the police Commissioner that Area C Command won “the Best Area Command in Nigeria in 2021 and 2022”, used the event to called on all residents of the area to be Security conscious and cooperate with the Police, this he said will lead to crime reduction with the slogan that says: “when you see something, say something to make our community crime free”.
