The newly constituted Caretaker Committee for the Student Union of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has made its first official and public statement demanding, among other things, the immediate publication of fees payable by all eligible students of the University.

In its maiden statement issued on Thursday, 14th, September, 2023 and jointly signed by Ogbewi Liberty and Idahosa John Omoh, Chairman and Secretary General, respectively; the Caretaker Committee said we “wish to state that all activities leading to the dissolution of the Student Union Government (SUG) and the setting up of the Caretaker Committee are regrettable. However, out of this, we must forge a new direction of mature engagement and genuine reconciliation.”

To this effect, the Caretaker Committee declared that “our immediate focus is to heal wounds, mend fences and to resolve disputes in the interest of all the students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

“We strongly believe that as students, we must be united in the manner of making demands and realizing what we want. Accordingly, we have chosen a genuine path and shall be committed to the course of dialogue.

The Caretaker Committee then made a 3-point demand for immediate attention and implementation by the University Management. These demands include: “the publication of all payable fees and add-ons in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, to avoid speculations and misinformation.

“We request the immediate resumption of dialogue with the University Management to address issues of contention.

“We appeal to the University Senate to reopen the University within 72 hours.

The Caretaker Committee said “While we regard our appointments as a call to service, we also want to assure all students that we shall be responsibly fair and just in all our dealings.

“We therefore appeal for calm and decorum on the part of our students,” the Caretaker Committee said.
