CDHR Raises Alarm Over the State of the Nation

The National President of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Dr. Osagie Obayuwana has raised alarm that Nigerians are now depressed due to the economic hardship being experienced as a result of removal of the fuel subsidy.
Dr. Obayuwana made this known at the 35th Annual General Conference of the CDHR held at Michael Imodu Institute of Labour Studies, Ilorin,Kwara State.
He decried the state of the nation and lamented that citizens were now going through unprecedented hardship ever experienced in the of history of Nigeria.
The Edo State born president said that the palliatives introduced by all tiers of government to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal were not enough to reduce the hardship that Nigerians are going through.
He said”petrol may soon go from #800 per litre just as the exchange rate of a dollar is now #1,200. The hardship is too much and Nigerians cannot accept the current situation.”
“We want a new Nigeria where the resources will be used to develop the country for all citizens”
He added that Nigeria used to have millionaires but now we have trillionaires due to the corrupted nature of the system.
Obayuwana stated that masses must stand by human rights groups as CDHR is ready to defend the rights of Nigerians.
The 35th AGC has in attendance the Director General of Michael Imodu Institute of Labour Studies, Comrade Isa Aremu; President, leading foreign relations Think Thank team in Africa, Society for International Relations Awareness, SIRA, Mr. Owei Lakemfa, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Kwara State , Mr. Muritala Saheed Olayinka, Chairperson, International Federation of Female Lawyers, Mrs Gloria Okoduwa, Immediate Past President of CDHR, Barrister Mallachy Ugwummadu, Secretary, Board of Trustee of CDHR, Comrade Debo Adeniran among others.
