The law enforcement agent, last week, apprehended two men, Alex Ekeh and Esiaga Vinetree Tochukwu, for their alleged involvement in same-sex relationship.
Homosexuality is illegal in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013 (SSMPA), which was signed into law by former Nigerian President Jonathan Ebele Goodluck on January 7, 2014, prohibits same-sex marriages and prescribes a 14-year jail term for offenders.
The police arrested both individuals on January 11th, 2024, after they were caught engaging in romantic activities at a hotel in Ikotun area of Lagos.
Following their arrest, they were detained in a cell until they were granted bail under strict conditions. Their prosecution was scheduled to commence promptly.
However, our correspondent gather that few days before the trial began, Esiaga Vinetree Tochukwu absconded while out on bail.
At present, his whereabouts remain unknown, although there are rumours suggesting that he may have fled the country, while others believe he is hiding within Nigeria.
The police are conducting an extensive search to ensure that he faces prosecution alongside his partner, Alex.
