CUSTOMS, TINCAN COMMAND MAKES SEIZURE WORTHS 4.27BN

In her mandate to align with the CGC’s zero tolerance for smuggling of illicit drugs into the country, the Tincan Customs command has again made an impressive seizure of Cocaine, Colorado and other contraband smuggled items Worth’s 4.27billion naira at its command in Lagos

Speaking at the press briefing on Thursday, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi told news men that the combination of inter agency backed by intelligence of Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) resulted in seizure of the items.

Giving the highlights of the goods seized, the Customs Chief said that the service intercepted 563 kg of cocaine valued at #2.368,380,000 and 955kg of Colorado indica valued at #1.911,400,000 amounting to #4.27 Billion Naira

Giving an update on the service collaboration with the NDLEA, the CGC said ” NSC is pleased to provide an update on the outcome of its collaboration, particularly with the NDLEA resulting in the successful interception and seizure of various illicit substances”

Stating further on the items seized, he said ” 65 packets of Colorado from 1×40ft container No- UACU 534833/6 originated from Canada, 17 Packets weighing 16.690kg confirmed to be Cocaine, 17 Packets Colorado indica, 5 pistols and 44 rounds of live ammunitions and empty magazine pistols.

Also speaking at the event was the Chairman of NDLEA, Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa who commended the CGC for the synergy between the two law enforcement agencies, adding that the collaboration is a strong warning to Drug Cartels that they will continue to lose their investments in the criminal trade.

Gen. Marwa who was represented by the Agency’s Director of media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi said ” the Handing over of seized illicit drugs in custody of Nigeria Customs Service is a development that speaks volume about the hard work and diligence of security agencies tasked with securing the territory of our country. The seizure is a testament just like the airport and seaports are.

The synergy between customs and NDLEA would further ensure closing of other loopholes that criminal elements may have capitalized on in the past years to smuggled illicit items into our country. I will also seize this opportunity to commend the officers and men of the Tincan command of NDLEA and other K-9 unit involved in the processes leading to these seizures for their steadfastness since we received intelligence weeks ago from our international partners on the containers from which these drugs were recovered as they departed the port of loading”
