Senator Kalu Flags Off Distribution of STEM Textbooks, Uniforms Across Abia North

By SAEED TIJJANI -The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has flagged off the 2026 phase of his annual free educational empowerment scheme, distributing thousands of specialized learning materials to public school pupils across the zone.
The mass distribution drive, which includes custom school bags, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) textbooks, standard exercise books, and brand-new school uniforms, kicked off simultaneously across targeted primary and secondary schools.
The legislative intervention is designed to completely cushion the financial burden of educational logistics on vulnerable parents while expanding access to foundational science education at the grassroots.
The flag-off ceremonies, held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, witnessed scenes of intense jubilation from pupils, teachers, and host communities. Senator Kalu, who was officially represented at the dual flag-off sites by his senior legislative aides, Barr. Victor Etie and Barr. Ifeanyi Igwe noted that the initiative will span all five local government areas comprising the northern senatorial district.
The first phase of the distribution successfully covered institutions including Leru Central School, Umuchieze in Umunneochi Local Government Area, and Amorji Lodu Primary School in Bende Local Government Area.
The project’s media team confirmed that moving forward into the coming days, identical distribution convoys will hit designated central schools across the remaining three council areas: Ohafia, Arochukwu, and Isuikwuato.
“Education remains one of my top priorities as the Senator representing the good people of Abia North,” Kalu stated in a dispatch from his media office.
“Since assuming office, I have consistently distributed educational materials such as school bags, textbooks, exercise books, and other learning resources to schools throughout the constituency. Together, we will continue to invest in the future of our children through quality education and improved learning infrastructure.” He added.
Beyond the immediate supply of instructional materials, the former Senate Chief Whip released a comprehensive performance metric detailing his multi-year infrastructural interventions aimed at reversing systemic decay in Abia State’s public school system.
The lawmaker’s state-wide footprint includes facilitating the renovation and construction of over 2,000 schools across Abia State to deliver modern learning environments.
Furthermore, his office has built and donated more than 3,000 customized, high-grade reading desks specifically to secondary and primary schools across Abia North District to improve classroom comfort. These capital projects complement the ongoing annual logistics drive, which ensures that uniforms, STEM textbooks, writing materials, and bags reach children across all five local government areas of the constituency.
Headteachers across the beneficiary schools expressed deep appreciation to the lawmaker, emphasizing that the distribution of standard STEM textbooks is a timely boost that aligns rural public schools with the current tech-driven requirements of the contemporary global economy.
