Ogun 1 Area Hands Over 71 Sacks Of Cannabis Sativa To NDLEA

Generates N275, 835,406, Revenue

The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Command has generated a total revenue of N275,835,406 for the fiscal year 2024.

Addressing the media at Idiroko, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller MS Shuaibu the achievement was recorded as a result of the diligent efforts of the command officers and cooperation of compliant traders.

The CAC said: “The revenue was actualized through the collection from baggage assessment, proceeds from auction sales of Premium Spirit (PMS) and vehicles”.

On anti-smuggling operations, Comptroller Shuaibu said through intelligence-driven operations and dedication of the command’s which led to interception and seizure of 16, 712, bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each.

The command also seized 139,881,litres of Premium Spirit (PMS).

Other seizures made include: 940 rounds of live ammunition, 586 bales of used clothing; 71 sacks and 3,253 parcels of Cannabis Sativa; 86 units of vehicles used for conveyance; 18 units of of foreign used vehicles; 2,150 pieces of used pneumatic tyres; 760 pieces of donkey skin; 3,766 cartons of frozen poultry products and 85 bags of imported flour.

The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizures amounts to N1, 267, 504, 035.

According to him “These achievements are a statement to the commitment of our officers to combating smuggling activities, protecting the economy and safeguarding the well-being of our society”.

Comptroller Shuaibu said that from January 1 2025, the command recorded significant seizures. “These seizures include 2,002 bags of smuggled rice weighing 50kg each, 6,180 pieces of cutlasses, 6,375 litres of PMS, among others”.

He said the intercepted items during this period bring the total Duty Paid Value (DPV) to N77,476,185.

“These seizures reflect our relentless efforts to curtail smuggling activities and enforce compliance with customs regulations.

Meanwhile, the command has handed over parcels of Cannabis Sativa to the Commander of the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Idiroko Special Command.

The items items include: 780 parcels of coconut-sized Cannabis; 225 parcels of book-sized Cannabis Sativa:160 parcels of bread-sized cannabis sativa.

Comptroller Shuaibu said the handing over of the drug is in line with the command’s commitment to strengthening partnership with other security agencies to combat drug trafficking and ensure a safer a safer society.

He extended his appreciation to the CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR dsm fnipr fniia psc+ and other officers for their resilience, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
