Ondo State Deputy Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa has declared that restructuring and devolution of power was critical to Sustainable development in the country.
Aiyedatiwa made this submission in his remarks while representing Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, as chairman of the 5th Annual Senator Abiola Ajimobi Roundtable, held at Senator Abiola Ajimobi Resources Center, Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan, Ibadan Oyo State on Friday.
The yearly event was organized by Senator Abiola Ajimobi Foundation and his wife, Her Excellency, Dr (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi to keep alive Senator Ajimobi’s remarkable legacy.
According to Aiyedatiwa, “the problem of democracy and sustainable development in Nigeria is fundamentally a problem of democratic capitalism”.
“The politics of deepening sustainable development has not received the attention it deserves, the sustainable development narratives has often focused on win-win narratives, while glossing over where political agreement is more difficult to reach”.
The Deputy Governor added that, “while autocracy can achieve good results, democracy provides the best platform and guarantees for difficult negotiations and deliberations that are required for the achievement of sustainable development” .
Canvassing for restructuring and devolution of power, Aiyedatiwa said, “development is a contested notion and there is no one way of achieving it. Individuals and groups have differing opinions on how development or lack of it affect them, and what they believe is the correct way to achieve development, hence, there is need for restructuring and devolution of power” .
Citing the current insecurity in the country as a case study, Aiyedatiwa said, “as contentious as the call may be, State Police will allow for proper policing as that will be part of deepening the democratic experiment in Nigeria” .
It would be recalled that, as a two-term Governor of Oyo State, the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi was dedicated to the cause of Oyo State .

Though no more with us, his impact and legacies live on five years after he joined his creator, Aiyedatiwa said .
