By Ranmilowo Ojalumo -Nigeria president, Bola Tinubu has ordered Flags to fly at half-staff across Nigeria, as the nation mourned the death of former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London at about 4:30 pm on Sunday, following a prolonged illness.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the passing of his predecessor in a statement from the State House, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and extending his condolences to the Buhari family.

As part of official arrangements, President Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom immediately to accompany the body of the late statesman back to Nigeria.

president Tinubu said “President Muhammadu Buhari was not only a former head of state but a symbol of integrity and national service. His contributions to Nigeria’s political evolution, both in uniform and in civilian attire, will remain etched in our collective memory.”

Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985. He returned to power decades later as a democratically elected president, serving two terms after victories in the 2015 and 2019 general elections.

Throughout his leadership, Buhari was known for his anti-corruption drive, infrastructural investments, and a dogged approach to national security challenges. Despite criticism on several fronts, he maintained a loyal following and left an enduring impact on Nigeria’s governance landscape. He was 82 years.
