The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has described Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the most respected political leader in the South East, commending his influence in the region’s political realignments and his commitment to democratic ideals.
In a statement signed by its President-General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, the apex sociopolitical youth body in the South East lauded Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, for his “unwavering dedication to the advancement of democracy and the welfare of the people.”
COSEYL noted that Senator Kalu’s political reach and leadership have been instrumental in the recent wave of defections of governors, lawmakers, and other key political figures from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the South East.
“Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has consistently proven himself to be a relentless advocate for the Ndigbo and democracy at large. His dedication has not gone unnoticed, particularly given the personal sacrifices he has made to ensure political emancipation for our people”, the statement said.
The group recalled that Kalu had faced political persecution and economic setbacks—including the revocation of his airline license during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo—because of his “principled stance and fearless advocacy for justice and equity.”
According to COSEYL, the senator’s resilience and continued service despite such challenges reflect the qualities of a true statesman.
“The sacrifices made by Senator Kalu for the sake of democracy cannot be overstated. His unwavering stance, even in the face of adversity, is a reflection of a true leader who prioritizes the welfare of the people over personal gain,” the group added.
COSEYL also praised Kalu for his “strategic role in uniting the region and fostering stronger political participation at the national level,” noting that his influence has strengthened the South East’s presence within the ruling party.
The group reaffirmed its confidence in Kalu’s leadership, describing him as a “hero among the Ndigbo and a beacon of integrity in Nigeria’s political space.”
“We stand firm in our belief that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu remains the most respected political leader in the South East. His contributions, sacrifices, and unwavering dedication to our collective progress are deeply appreciated,” COSEYL stated.
