Ondo State Govt Orders Security Crackdown,on Kidnappers, Warns Criminal Syndicates

The Ondo State Government has directed security agencies to intensify operations against kidnapping syndicates operating in parts of the state, following what it described as disturbing revelations that some of the recent incidents were allegedly orchestrated by local collaborators.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, said the government was deeply concerned about the spate of kidnappings and would not tolerate attempts to destabilise the state.
“The government is aware that some unscrupulous elements are seeking to use criminal activities to portray Ondo State as unsafe. Such acts are unacceptable and will be met with firm and lawful action,” he said.
Ajanaku disclosed that directives had been issued to all security formations in the state to intensify surveillance and immediately clamp down on individuals or groups involved in the criminal acts.
“Security operatives have been mandated to ensure that those found culpable are apprehended, thoroughly investigated, and brought to justice in accordance with the law,” he added.
The commissioner stressed that the state government had made significant investments to strengthen its security architecture in recent years.
According to him, these efforts include the provision of utility vehicles and logistics support to security agencies, the construction of a state-of-the-art Crime Control Centre for the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, and the recent recruitment of 500 well-trained personnel to boost intelligence gathering and rapid response operations across the state.
He also called on traditional rulers to heighten vigilance within their domains and work closely with security agencies.
“Traditional rulers are urged to closely monitor activities within their communities and promptly report any suspicious movements or gatherings. Community-based intelligence remains a critical component in the fight against crime,” Ajanaku said.
Residents were similarly advised not to remain silent in the face of suspicious activities.
“If you see something, say something. The protection of lives and property remains the foremost priority of the Ondo State Government, and no individual or group will be allowed to undermine the peace, security and stability of our dear state,” the statement added.
