MARAN INAUGURATES NEW EXECUTIVE COUNCIL JUNE 23

By Tunde Ojudun The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) will inaugurate its newly elected Executive Council on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.
The event will bring together leading stakeholders from the maritime, shipping, logistics, security, and media sectors to deliberate on strengthening ethical standards in maritime journalism.
The theme of the inauguration is: “Upholding Ethical Journalism for Maritime Development.”
Chairman of the Occasion is Emmanuel Maiguwa Gankino, President, Maritime Security Providers Association of Nigeria (MASPAN) while the Keynote Speaker is Bolaji Abimbola, public relations and event management expert
Special Guests of Honour include Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Director-General, NIMASA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director, NPA, Barr. Pius Akutah Ukeyima, Executive Secretary/CEO, NSC, and Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, Comptroller-General, NCS.
Other distinguished guests include CEOs of maritime agencies, industry leaders, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, and stakeholders across the maritime value chain.
MARAN President, Com. Oluyinka Onigbinde, described the inauguration as a defining moment in the association’s journey toward professionalism, credibility, and responsible reportage.
He emphasized that the new council will reposition MARAN as a stronger voice in the sector through capacity building, constructive engagement, and adherence to ethical standards.
“The maritime industry is central to Nigeria’s economic growth, and ethical journalism remains vital for transparency, accountability, and sustainable development,” Onigbinde stated.
He urged government agencies, operators, and media practitioners to support initiatives that strengthen maritime journalism and advance Nigeria’s blue economy aspirations.
The inauguration will formally usher in MARAN’s new leadership, expected to drive greater impact and relevance within the maritime sector.
