Senator Orji Kalu Drums Support for State Police

Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed strong support for the passage of the State Police Constitutional Amendment Bill currently under consideration at the National Assembly.
Kalu described the bill as a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and bringing policing closer to the people.
Speaking during legislative deliberations, the former Senate Chief Whip also backed the Police Trust Fund Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, noting that the proposed legislation would improve funding, operational capacity, and overall effectiveness of law enforcement agencies across the country.
According to him, Nigeria’s growing security challenges require practical reforms that will empower security institutions to respond swiftly and effectively to threats at the grassroots level.
“The consideration and subsequent passage of the State Police Constitutional Amendment Bill is a significant move towards enhancing security and ensuring policing is more community-focused,” Kalu stated.
He added that adequate funding remains critical to achieving meaningful security reforms, stressing that the Police Trust Fund legislation would provide stronger institutional support for law enforcement agencies.
