Abia APC vows 80% votes for Tinubu in 2027, says Otti’s claim support deceptive

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has said it will deliver over 80 per cent of the state’s votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, dismissing claims that Governor Alex Otti would support the President’s re-election.
The party said the claim, reportedly made by a member of the Labour Party, should not be taken seriously, describing it as “deceptive” and “self-serving.”
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the APC said it was aware of “the deceptive tendencies and unreliability that have come to define Governor Otti’s brand of politics.”
“While one might be tempted to welcome and even appreciate such a claim, especially coming from a party that has consistently undermined President Tinubu and the APC, we refuse to be misled by what is clearly a calculated and self-serving narrative,” the statement read.
The party noted that Governor Otti and his party rejected the outcome of the 2023 presidential election and allegedly failed to recognise the President appropriately in the state.
“It is on record that Governor Otti and his party openly rejected the outcome of the 2023 presidential election and even refused to display the official portraits of President Tinubu in government offices,” Aguoru said.
He further alleged that aides and supporters of the governor had continued to criticise the President and his policies online, claiming such actions were being encouraged by the state government.
The APC also faulted what it described as Otti’s indirect approach to expressing support for the President, contrasting it with the stance of Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo.
“Rather than openly and boldly identifying with President Tinubu, he has chosen to deploy proxies to communicate supposed support, unlike Governor Charles Soludo, who has clearly and publicly declared his position,” the statement added.
The party described the alleged endorsement as “a desperate and deceptive tactic aimed at political survival,” insisting that Otti’s chances of re-election were weak.
“It is clear that Governor Otti understands the reality on ground that his chances of re-election are less than 30 per cent, even with all the social media-sponsored narratives,” Aguoru said.
He advised the President to ignore the purported support, maintaining that the APC had the structure and grassroots presence to secure victory in the state.
“The APC in Abia State possesses the structure, grassroots support, and political strength required to deliver no less than 80–90 per cent of the votes for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” he stated.
The party also urged Otti to focus on his own political future rather than making “hollow promises.”
“Governor Otti should focus on securing a viable political platform for his own re-election bid before making promises to a President whose mandate and second-term prospects are firmly rooted in the support of Nigerians,” the statement said.
The APC added that its grassroots groups, including Renewed Hope Partners, Renewed Hope Ambassadors, City Boys Movement, and Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria, were already mobilising support across the state.
