An armed security operatives recently attacked some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), where some were injured and others arrested.
The IPOB members, it was gathered, converged at a particular location in Ebonyi State on October 27, 2019, for their meeting when the security operatives stormed the venue, lunching severe attack and allegedly opened fire on them.
It was gathered that the security operatives had targeted most of the members, having got information that it was a meeting that involved most of their zonal and unit leaders.
According to sources, some of the IPOB zonal and unit leaders include Chikelu Felix, Emeka iheaso, Duru Kennedy Anayo, Paschal chizite Dumokeke, Asoanya Chinagolum, Ginika olisa, Sunday Emegini and among others.
They were tagged as unrepentant members of the group who had been leading others, propagating the cause of IPOB.
IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu confirmed and raised alarm over the fresh attack on its members.
The IPOB leader added that some members were seriously injured and some in critical condition following the Ebonyi incident.
The IPOB leader, in his Twitter handle wrote: “A combined team of security operatives invaded the venue of IPOB gathering in Ebonyi and opened fire on innocent citizens.
“Early reports indicate many are seriously injured, with some in critical condition.”
Although, there was no record of death, sources said the security operatives are determined to get rid of the so called unrepentant members of the group wherever they are.
Although, Paschal Dumokeke and other identified members of the group were arrested and taken to Awkuzu SARs office in Anambra State, those who escaped have gone into hidden to save their lives and avoid state arrest.
The Nigeria Government, it would be recalled, proscribed IPOB on September 20, 2017, tagging it as a terrorist group.
Hence, the security operatives is clamping down on any identified member of the group.
The Ebonyi incident is just one of the attacks on some identified members of the group.
As of the time of this report, security operatives are hunting for IPOB members, because the group has already been proscribed by court as terrorist group.
