Man runs away to avoid initiation, as Eiye cult kills friend

For One Napoleon Odion Omoruyi, this is not a good time as he’s currently on the run for his life after a narrow escape from being killed by dare devil cult group, known as Eiye confraternity.

According to our source, trouble started for Omoruyi in 1999 when members of the Eiye confraternity wanted him to join them. Although he declined from the onset, but when the pressure was too much for him to bear, he decided to join the group in 2004.

Owing to Omoruyi kind heart, on the day of his initiation, one of the members of the group gave him detail information about the confraternity, telling him that new member had a 50/50 chance of surviving the orientation and that, it is not everybody that survives it.

Following this vital information, Omoruyi became scared. Hence he decided not to do the initiation and ran away.

Our source said the group sent people to Omoruyi several time to change his mind but he didn’t go back to them. As a result of this, the confraternity warned him that he already had much information about them and that they will come after him if he did not come for the initiation.

As promised, on August 13, 2004, members of the confraternity visited Omoruyi about 10:00pm at his father’s house; located at No. 7 Onurolo Street off, off Imadiyi Street, Etete quarters G.R.A, Benin City; however, they didn’t see him. Unfortunately, they saw his friend, Osahon Osakpamwan, whose nickname is Osas and killed him immediately.

According to source who gave detail information on how Omoruyi escaped, the incident lasted from 10:00PM till 12:00AM and before members of the confraternity gained access to Omoruyi’s father’s house, he had hidden himself in the ceiling throughout the period the operation lasted; whereas, his friend didn’t know he was already in the ceiling.

“After they had killed Omoruyi’s friend, they ransacked his room and took his Nigerian passport away. However, Omoruyi remained in the ceiling because he was scared that they were still around”, the source said.

Few minutes after the group left, Omoruyi’s father reportedly got home and screamed when he saw the lifeless body in his son’s room, thinking it was his son. When Omoruyi heard his father voice, he came down from the ceiling and told his father to run away. He also ran away from the house to police station.

Although Omoruyi reported the matter to police, as of the time of this report, there is no record of any arrest. Omoruyi’s whereabouts on the other hand has remained unknown from that time till now.

Various cult group have been operating without any hesitation in the South-South region of the country for sometimes now. Few weeks ago, cultists reportedly killed a businessman in Portharcort city and police authority is yet to apprehend the culprit.
