Land Inheritance Saga: Woman Declared Wanted by Her Uncle

In what may be described as a shocking tale of family violence and persecution, one Blessing Love Aliu, in Agenebode Community, Edo State, South- South Nigeria, has fled for her life, following a dead threat from her uncle, simply Identified as Mr Abu.
Our correspondent gathered that Mr Abu declared her wanted and vowed to kill her over a land she inherited from her late father which she refused to let go.

According to sources, Blessing’s ordeal began when her father passed away on April 26, 2019. It was gathered that Mr. Abu seized the family’s property and land, citing traditional norms that deny women right to inheritance
When Blessing Love Aliu sought justice through traditional elders and leaders, they supported Mr. Abu’s claims.
It was gathered that the situation worsened when Blessing sold part of the land to fund her education. Mr. Abu allegedly retaliated brutally, sending thugs to attack her and in the process, she suffered severe injuries and was hospitalized.

The violence however escalated, according to sources, when Mr. Abu and his accomplices assaulted Blessing’s mother, Bridget Aliu, causing severe injuries. Blessing was also allegedly abducted and tortured on Mr. Abu’s orders.
It was gathered that With the help of a sympathetic thug, Blessing escaped and fled to Lagos. However, Mr. Abu’s threats continued, forcing Blessing to run away from home.
Sources close to the family revealed that Mr. Abu has declared Blessing Love Aliu wanted, vowing to kill her wherever she’s found.
As of the time of filling this report, Blessing’s whereabouts is unknown.
Our correspondent who interviewed members of the family repotted that Blessing’s family refused to disclose where she is.
The disturbing case highlights the dangers of patriarchal traditions and violence against women in many parts of Nigeria, where tradition denies women right to land inheritance.
