How couple escapes ritual group attack

The menace of the ritualists, popularly called “Awon Oloro” among the Yoruba’s is becoming unbearable every day in Ikorodu Local Government area of Lagos State 

 While their barbaric activities of sacrificing and killing at night and broad day light is taking a new dimension every day in the area, the government and the security agents seem to have bereft idea on how to curb their excesses. 

The government is not curtailing their barbaric activities all in the name of preserving traditional belief. 

The Oloro group seem to have power such that they dictate when people should move and not to move.

 They often went as far as declaring “sit at home order” for particular number of days and declared openly that they want to make sacrifice and anybody they see outside during the period automatically becomes a sacrificial lamb. 

The general belief in the area currently is that the “Oloro group” are above the law since it appears the government cannot control them.   

While many citizens in the metropolis over the years have fallen victim of the ritualists’ barbaric activities, many are still falling victim. 

A couple, Mr. Oluwabunmi Gabriel Ojo and his wife Mrs. Abisola Bunmi Ojo with their children who lives at 24, Agbede Street, Ikorodu area of Lagos State, nearly fall victim in the hand of the Oloro group sometimes in April, 2017 in the area while returning home from church vigil.

It was gathered that the couple with their two children, Emmanuel and Esther were returning home from vigil at about 3: 30 AM but their vehicle broken down in the middle of the journey, hence they decide to trek home from the spot where the vehicle broken down, but unfortunately, the Oloro group met them on the road.

 It was gathered that the Oloro group, after several minutes of incantation ordered the couple to join them in the ritual process which they declined by telling them that the Oro ritual contradicts their belief as a born again Christians. 

Narrating her ordeal in the hand of the Oloro group; Mrs. Ojo said after an elongated argument, the Oloro group threatens to kill them, especially with the fact that it is a taboo for female to see them while carrying out their ritual processes and any women seen will be killed.

 By this time, according to her, the group has collected her wallet which contained her identity card, drivers’ license, ATM card as well as some cash. 

“They made us to sit down in one place but they go a bit far away from us to discuss possibly what they should do to us, but while they were still discussing, we silently peep, tip toe and run away. 

In the process of running, I fell and sustained head injury, which was later treated”, Mrs Ojo said.

It was gathered that the couple reported the matter to the security agent in the area at about 10: 00 AM.

 Sources said the security agents promised to handle the matter with diligent but they never do anything about it.

  It was also gathered that after the day of the encounter, the Oloro group successfully traced the couple to their residence and always visit them at night with series of notification and threat that there is nowhere for them to hide.

In view of the treat, the couple, it was gathered, decided to relocate to Mowe, a distance of about 45 minutes from Ikorodu to live with Mrs. Ojo’s parent.

 Unfortunately for the family, tragedy struck few weeks later. It was gathered that the Oloro group traced the couple to Mowe one fateful day, although the couple, according to our source went for a church program, but before they return, the Oloro’s group had visited their house and allegedly killed Mrs. Ojo’s mother and also dropped a notification that they were behind the killing and that there is no hiding place for the couple. 

As of the press time, the security agents have not been able to nab the perpetrator of the evil act. 

Meanwhile, a source who never wants his name mentioned, disclosed recently that since the murder of Mrs.’ Ojo mother, the couple have been living with fear, until a family friend decided to assist them with necessary support and ensure that they traveled out of Nigeria to avoid been killed by the Oloro group.     

 Residents in the area are currently calling on the government to urgently do something about the ritualists groups in the area and curb their excesses and dehumanization of people in ikorodu area of Lagos State.
