…We are partner to government in power, says Chairman

The National Chairman of the New Nigeria people’s party (NNPP), Chief Okechukwu Boniface Aniebonam has called on the Nigerian government and every citizen of the country to respect the rule of law so as to have a country that everybody will be proud of.
The Chairman made this call on Thursday during a press conference held at the party’s National Secretariat annex in Lagos to celebrate the feats achieved by the party over the years.
Chief Aniebonam said the new Nigeria that every Nigerian is yearning for will come to reality if the rule of law is held in high esteem, adding that the New Nigeria People’s Party is a party that desires the sanctity of rule of law.
He said “the yearning of every Nigerian is the enchantment of new Nigeria where there is rule of law. The name of our party (New Nigeria People’s Party) tells what the party is all about. The party wants rule of law so that we can all power a new Nigeria. A new Nigeria will come when we are all ready to respect the rule of law.
“If you search the mind of every Nigerian, no matter how devilish, he or she wants a new Nigeria. There is high level of unemployment, the government may be doing its best but they can’t succeed unless we support them”, Chief Aniebonam said.
Meanwhile, the party chairman has said NNPP is not an opposition party but a responsible partner to the government in power.
“We are not an opposition party. The way opposition is being played in Nigeria is disturbing. Opposition in the real sense of it is a constructive engagement. Unfortunately in Nigeria, we live and believe that nothing is good in what the government is doing once it is not favourable to us, which is wrong. NNPP will not be an opposition. If we see anything contrary, we will sit down and put it in writing and send it to the government”, the party chairman said.
While condemning election rigging in the country, Chief Aniebonam called on President Buhari to be conscious of rigging in the country, adding that the president should put measure in place before the expiration of his tenure and create a level playing ground where credible people that will rule the country will emerge.
NNPP was registered about 20 years ago and has since survived several deregistration of parties. The National Independent Electoral Commission deregistered about 74 parties recently but NNPP was part of the few ones that survived. The party contested for seats in many states of the federation in the 2019 general election and won some seats both in national and state legislature.
The party chairman however said the party will continue to work hard towards the attainment of New Nigeria.
