The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders (APFFLON), has applauded the Presidency for giving a listening ear to Freight Agents on the need to suspend ‘Form M’ and PAAR on Air Cargoes and finally suspend the move.

Recall that the Association recently, in a letter with reference number APFFLON/ HQ/VP/000/20, addressed to the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and captioned, COMPLAINT ON THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE INTRODUCTION OF’FORM M’ AND PRE- ARRIVAL ASSESSMENT REPORT (PAAR), FOR AIRPORT CARGOES; THE NEED TO STOP THE PLANNED MOVE, protested against the planned introduction of a new fiscal policy on Air Cargoes.

The Association had in the letter, expressed concern on the decision by the Ministry of Finance saying that the introduction of the planned fiscal policy would lead to dangerous delays in the delivery of very essential, time bound and fragile Cargoes, as well as loss of man-hours and huge demurrage charges due to the bureaucratic procedures that the generation of ‘Form M’ and PAAR usually undergo.

APFFLON, through it’s National President, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, expressed happiness with the immediate response of the Presidency on the very issue, saying that it was a move in the right direction.

Also recall that in the letter, APFFLON recommended a review of the Code 4900 Platform and it’s  attendant challenges as well as the engagement of stakeholders, particularly freight forwarders, on the need to comply with Code 4900 platform which it insisted remained expeditious and most efficient, cautioning the government on the perceived hazards that the planned introduction would pose to the economy.

The Association also expressed gratitude to the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigerian Shippers Council, the CRFFN, and to other stakeholders who likely intervened and promptly too, saying that it was a brilliant decision taken by the Federal Government.

Besides, other Freight Agents have also applauded the decision of the Federal Government to continue with the present Procedure Code 4900 describing it as time saving and very efficient.

Meanwhile, the National President of APFFLON, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, on behalf of the Association has renewed the pledge to continue calling the attention of the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to those policies that are not people friendly in line with it’s disposition to Public Advocacy, insisting that with the right people and systems in place, the nation stands a good chance to advancing progressively in all dimensions.
