Occupants run for safety, as suspected religious bigot set house ablaze in Edo
There was pandemonium on Sunday September 26th 2021 night when suspected religious bigots allegedly set a house on fire in Benin city, Edo State, South-South Nigeria while targeting a Christian preacher and her daughter identified as Mr. Aigbe Johnbull who was the owner of the house and Ms Charity his daughter.
Mr Aigbe Johnbull and Charity was said to have earlier preached to some set of people who were Muslim, a development they had complained was against their wish.
The set of people, it was gathered, had earlier allegedly chased the preacher and Charity away from Shagari College and also threaten to locate them and deal ruthlessly with them wherever they dwell because he had blasphemed by trying to preach against their beliefs.
It was gathered that there was an unusual sound coming from the back of the house located at the outskirt of Iyobosa Street on the fateful night and the sound caught the attention of the people present at that time.
The electricity power in the house was also said to have been shut out almost immediately which raised the suspicion that something wasn’t right and when they tried to find out what it was, it was discovered that there was smoke coming from the back of the house.
Some people from the neighboring compounds who were said to have combined effort to put off the fire, while speaking on the development said calls were put across to fire service but they couldn’t respond to the call due to logistic problems.
Some of the occupants of the neighboring compound told newsmen that they saw some strange men from distance holding a keg suspected to contain petroleum shortly before the fire incident but they never knew they were on mission to set the house ablaze.
Wife of the preacher, Mrs Omorovbiye Aigbe, told newsmen that her daughter identified as Charity, granddaughter, husband and herself were indoor when the house was set on fire but they all narrowly escaped death and hid at their neighbors house who were also scared for their lives at the time of the incidence.
Mrs. Aigbe disclosed that every member of the family, including her daughter and granddaughter were looking for where to run to for safety as of press time.
She told newsmen that the life of her husband, daughter and granddaughter has been in serious danger since her husband and Charity preached to the suspected religious bigot.
Although the matter was said to have been reported to the security agencies, Mrs. Aigbe expressed displeasure that the culprits have not been apprehended till date.
