LASG suspends NURTW operations in Idumota
Barely few hours after the national President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Tajudeen Baruwa threaten that the operation of the union and its council executives may be suspended in Lagos State, the Lagos State Government has announced the indefinite suspension of the activities of the union (NURTW) in some parts of Lagos Island.
The suspension affected Eyin Eyo, Church Street and Idumota Bridge on Lagos Island metropolis of the state.
The suspension was a consequence of the crisis that ravaged the areas last week Friday. The crisis involved factional members of the union members who freely used dangerous weapons to attack one another.
The suspension was announced by the Special Adviser to the state Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka at a stakeholders’ meeting comprising the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Central Business District (CBD) and Lagos State Market Women Association which held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.
Fayinka also said the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) had been tasked to deploy an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) on Idumota Bridge to and to enforce the suspension.
