RAIL PROJECT: LAGOS EXTENDS TRAFFIC DIVERSION AT MURITALA MOHAMMED WAY, KAYODE, OGUNMOKUN STREET
In furtherance of the ongoing construction of the First Phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit, Red Line project, the Lagos State Government has announced the extension of the traffic diversion on Muritala Mohammed Way and Apapa Road, Oyingbo from the 27th January, 2023 till 31st March, 2023 for a duration of nine weeks.
In a statement released on Thursday by the state Ministry of Transportation and made available to Transportation Plus, the Commissioner, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde explained that the total lane closure will be sustained to allow the contractor complete the construction without any inhibition during the course of the construction.
Oladeinde revealed that the previous alternative routes will be maintained as well. He stated that traffic on Muritala Mohammed way will be diverted to Abeokuta Street to access Borno Way to Coates Street to link Muritala Mohammed Way again, adding that motorists can alternately access their destinations from Cemetery Street.
In the same vein, Traffic on Apapa Road will be accommodated with the temporary lanes constructed before the overpass and will be channelized to two lanes on Muritala Mohammed Way.
The Commissioner assured that the site will be cordon off for the safety of the citizenry, adding that emergency vehicles will be on ground to tow broken down vehicles along the axis. He also stated that signage’s will be placed on the access roads with the State’s Traffic Management Authority to manage traffic flow and minimize inconveniences
The State Government reiterates its commitment towards the development of transport infrastructure within the metropolis, maintaining that it is vital for the Multi-Modal Transportation System of the State Government which will in turn boost the economic prowess of the citizenry.
In the same vein, in continuation of the first phase of the LRMT Redline project (Oyingbo-Agbado), the State Government will be diverting traffic from Ago-Owu to the rail crossing on Kayode Street and Ijaiye Street to the rail crossing on Ogunmokun road in Mushin for a duration of nine weeks, from 27th January till 31st March, 2023.
Dr. Oladeinde disclosed in another statement that the diversion was extended to ensure the completion of the construction of the Mushin Flyover.
The commissioner explained that Motorists will be diverted to Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway via Jibowu to enable them connect Ogunmokun Street to continue their journeys, while Ogunmokun Traffic will be diverted to Lagos-Abeokuta Way, Ilupeju Bypass to link Ikorodu Road and reach their desired destinations. He also assured that signage will be mounted and Traffic Management Personnel will be deployed to guide movement during the course of the work.
Reiterating the continuous commitment of the Babajide Sanwo-olu led administration towards the development of transport infrastructure within the metropolis, the Transport Commissioner maintained that a Multi-Modal Transportation System will boost the economic prowess of the citizenry and State.
