Eyin- Osa Resettlement: Court Remand 6 Men Over Alleged Threat To Life, Other Offences

A Lagos Chief Magistrate Court, sitting at Tinubu, on Tuesday remanded Six men namely, Sunday Olabayo, 48, Lawal Ibrahim Adefemi, 33, Gbenga Demurin, 52; Idowu Mujaheed, 40; Samsudeen Oluwo, 50 and Dare Majekodunmi 40,

Magistrate B. A. Sonuga, ordered their remand, after they all pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy, threat to kill, possession of dangerous weapons, and willful damage leveled against them by the officers of Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos.

The six men according to the prosecutor, Barrister Morufu Animashaun from the legal department of the ForceCID Annex, on July 8, 2023, conspired among themselves and invaded Eyin- Osa Resettlement Scheme at llamijia, Epe, Lagos State.

Animashaun told the court that the defendants, who were armed with dangerous weapons, threatened to kill one Saheed Abdullahi.

He also told the court that the defendants on the said day, forcefully entered the resettlement Scheme an attempted to forcefully take over the entire community.

Animashaun further told the court that the six men, on the mentioned date, willfully demolished and destroyed the existing perimeter fence of the land lying and situated at the Resettlement Scheme, belonging to one Saheed Abdullahi without his consent

He told the court that the offences committed by the six men contravened sections Section 411; 232 and 339(1) of the Criminal Law of Ch.C17, Vol. 3, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

He also told the court that the offence contravened section 3 of the Lagos State Properties Protection Law, 2016.

However, all the defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Following their not guilty plea, Barrister Animashaun asked the court for a trial date. He also urged the court till the determination of the charges against them.

But a lawyer to the defendants, Abayomi Omotobora, orally applied for their bail, which was granted.

Parts of the bail terms include: a bail sum of N1 million with two responsible sureties who reside in Lagos in like sum; evidence of three years tax payment, and that they must have their addresses verified.

Magistrate Sonuga, while adjourning the matter till August 23, 2023, for mention, ordered the remand at the Ikoyi centre of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) of all defendants till they were able to meet the bail terms.
