In the spirit of marking the 2024 World Peace Day amongst people of African Descent, the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), Nigeria Chapter has conferred the prestigious Best SDG Performing Governor of the year to His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Speaking at the Oyo State House recently, the National Secretary General of IAWPA. Dr. (Amb.) Chinasa Ugboaja said that after diligent findings, it was confirmed that the Governor is a man of Peace and Oyo State remains one of the most peaceful states in the federation.
She said “We are able to meet the people of Oyo State where we found out that the State is one of the most peaceful and also noticed that Governor Seyi Makinde is doing well in leading his people. In what we were told, we confirmed here today that he really deserves the honour”.
Dr. Ugboaja stressed that henceforth Governor Makinde now becomes a full member of International Association of World Peace Advocates Ecosoc United Nations.
While calling on Nigerians to embrace Peace and join hands together to make Nigeria great, she gave kudos to the World IAWPA President, Amb. Per Stafsen, International Director Prof. Chidi Ehriodo , and Amb. Emmanuel Nkwueke for their efforts in making the event a huge success.
On his part as the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Governor Makinde expressed his heartfelt gratitude to IAWPA for honouring him at this time when the world is cultivating the 2024 World Peace Day.
Receiving the Peace Advocate Award was Rev. Idowu Ogedengbe, the Executive Assistant to the Governor who said that His Excellency Seyi Makinde really deserves the honour; saying that his administration commenced in 2019 with a roadmap for accelerating development in the state and has been so encouraging with the participation and engagement of the people of Oyo State who embraced the vision.
Rev. Ogedengbe added that Oyo State used to be known for violence but the Governor came in as a man of Peace and told the people that he is not here to fight the poor but poverty to move the state to prosperity.
He called on Nigerians to make Peace their lifestyle and attitudes and not just what is done occasionally while also advising other neighbouring states to learn the strategy of Peace currently reigning in Oyo State.
