Residents Scamper for Safety, as Bandits Invade Niger Community

Following the invasion of the dare devil bandits to some communities in Wushishi local government area of Niger State last week, our correspondent can report authoritatively that many residents are running away from the affected communities for fear of being killed in future attack.

Bandits have again hit the Niger state community last week where many people, both civilians and no fewer than thirteen Military personnel were reportedly killed and some local vigilantes were also injured.

The development has created fear in the mind of the residents in the affected and neighboring community.

According to our correspondent, the ugly experiences that some of the people in the community had in one of the nights that the bandits invaded the community have made their continuous living in the community a suicidal mission.

One Mrs. Idahosa Omoye Ujerekre and many other people, it was gathered, ran into the bush during one of the bandits’ invasion on the night of August 17, 2023, following a sporadic shooting that eventually left many people dead and many injured.

It was gathered the security operative had felt reluctant to respond when the bandit invasion was initially reported to them because of the deadly nature of the bandits.

It was gathered that Mrs Idahosa Omoye Ujerekre and many other people spent many days in the bush and couldn’t return home as a result of the attack.

Our correspondent also gathered that  Mrs. Idahosa Omoye Ujerekre’s child got lost in the bush for two days in the process of running in the bush before he was eventually found.

Both the child and the mother, it was learnt, sustained various degrees of injuries after which Mrs. Omoye Ujerekre, who it was gathered, had high blood pressure and her child eventually landed in the hospital through the aid of some good Samaritans.

Although many residents of the community, including Mrs Idahosa Omoye Ujerekre, after she was discharged from the hospital have run to unknown destinations for safety, the bandits, it was gathered, may be living large in the community.

As of press time, the bandits were said to have settled in the area with their cows and other domestic animals restyled from villagers within and outside the communities in the area, hence living in the community has become a serious life risk.
