MWUN President, Bunu Lauds Western Port Police Command, Seeks Sustainable Stakeholder Synergy on Port Security

The President-General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi on 5th of August, 2025, alongside his national executives paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, officers and men of the Western Port Authority Police Command, Apapa, Lagos, CP Olanrewaju Olanrewaju Ishola.

According to a statement signed by MWUN spokesperson, comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, the visit was to foster seamless relationship between the Port Authority Command of the Police and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria. It was also to ensure a sustainable collaboration with the force and critical stakeholders, with commitment to security and safety; the Union in all areas of operation at the sea ports.

The Izon born Delta State Maritime Expert, Seasoned Sailor and astute Administrator, Comrade Bunu appreciated the Port Police (Western) Command for strategically positioning and tightly securing the Ports environments, making sure that there’s relative peace at the Ports; explaining that Maritime Workers Union door is always open for the Command to walk and work in synergy with the Union to ensuring smooth operations at all times.

In response, CP Ishola also commended the Union’s administrative leadership for being sincere in all its operation and cooperation with the Command, saying that the peace being witnessed today couldn’t have been achieved without the cooperation of MWUN and other critical stakeholders at the sector; hence, the Command holds the Union at high esteem.

However, before the close of the visit there was a critical interactive session amongst the two bodies to pave way for solidifying the Police and MWUN cooperation for safer, more efficient, effective, productive Maritime sector.
