Narcotics: Motor boy bags 3 Years jail term
One Manga Afebende, a motor boy has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for dealing in narcotics substances.
Afebende was sentenced to serve the jail term by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of Federal High Court, Lagos.
The convict, a motor boy of a water tanker, was arraigned on December 12, 2019 before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, on a count charge of unlawful dealing in narcotics similar to cocaine, heroine and LSD.
Afebende’s arraignment follow his arrest on May 19, 2019, by the operatives of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after he was caught to be in possession of about 430 grams of banned ‘weeds’.
The offense according to the prosecutor, Mr. Ichakpa Oigoga, contravened section 11(1) of NDLEA Act, Laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge which paved the way for the prosecutor, Oigoga, to review the fact of the charge against the convict.
The prosecutor told the court that the convict was arrested on Thompson Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos, with the banned weeds, and tendered same before the court. He also tendered the convict’s statements, laboratory test analysis and the bulk of the confiscated ‘weed’.
After admitting the exhibits by the court, the prosecutor urged the court to convict the defendant and sentence him as prescribed by the NDLEA Act.
The convict, in his plea for mercy, told the court that he become remorseful during his stay in detention and promised not to go back to the illicit act, if giving second chance.
After listened to the prosecutor and the convict’s plea for mercy, Justice Oweibo sentenced the convict to three years. “The convict is hereby sentence to three years imprisonment, starting from May 19, when he has been in custody”.
