The spate of cultism and secrete society in Edo state South- South Nigeria is becoming a thing of serious concern and may still be far from declining as many cases keep springing up every day.
Sources recently narrated to our correspondent how a Benin man, specifically from Esan and identified as Inegbenehi Godfrey, was lured to join a secret society in which his father was one of the leaders but declined the offer as result of his religions stand.
Godfrey has however reportedly disappeared since following an alleged unrelenting threat to his life.
It was gathered that Godfrey’s father was a member of a secret society in Benin, but after his death in January, 2015; members of the society approached Godfrey to join the cult to replace his late father but he decline, saying he’s a Christian.
Meanwhile, sources closed to the family told our correspondent that members of the society allegedly threaten him to accept the offer or risk his life because the offer is not meant to be rejected.
Godfrey reportedly presented the matter to the security agents but their involvement never make any different and when it appeared he could no longer handle it, he ran to Lagos for safety.
It was also gathered that after few months in Lagos, member of the group successfully traced and located him while working at a Sawmill, and allegedly made an attempt to kill him but he narrowly escaped, though with a serious injury in his leg.
Some members of his family told our correspondent that Godfrey has since disappeared and nobody can ascertain his whereabouts. There is however an insinuation that he may have run out of the country for safety.
Meanwhile, a source who never wants his name to be mentioned disclosed to our correspondent that members of the society are currently looking for Godfrey because it is a taboo for him to decline the society’s invitation for initiation.
According to the source, the rule of the society is that anybody that is invited to the society must join or dies because he has already known their secret.
Although nobody currently knows the whereabouts of Godfrey, members of the society, according to our source, believe they will still get hold of Godfrey wherever he may be hiding in Nigeria to join the society as earlier planned or they eliminate him.
