Leye Ajayi Emerges NUJ Lagos Council Chairman

The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) has elected Mr. Leye Ajayi as the Chairman of the Lagos state Council of the union.

Ajayi defeated his rival, the incumbent Chairman, Dr. Quasim Akinreti after scoring 370 votes, against Akinreti who scored 68 votes.

Ajayi is a staff of the News Agency of Nigeria.

Similarly, Comrade Tunde Olalere of Lagos State Ministry of information scores 381 votes, defeating Comrade Raymond Tedu Jaire, to emerge Secretary of the Council. Mr. Innocent Anaba of the Vanguard Newspaper has also been elected Financial Secretary of the council with 377 votes against 56 votes scored by his opponent, Iyabo Wale.

The Vice President of NUJ, Zone B, Mr. Cosmas Oni, after announcing the result, tasked the elected officers to be selfless and diligence as they pilot the affairs of the Lagos Council.

In his acceptance speech, Ajayi, expressed gratitude to professional colleagues for their support and solidarity throughout the entire process. he promised to leave no stone unturned in repositioning the council for greater glory. Leye also promised to run a responsive and responsible leadership for the council.

meanwhile, the new chairman has extended a hand of fellowship to Dr. Akinreti and other contestants who lost at the election even as he coveted their support in discharging the duty of the council, stressing that there is no winner, no loser.
