LASTCOC Chairman Backs Tinubu’s Re-election, Endorses Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hazmat for Lagos Governor

The Chairman of the Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee (LASTCOC) and Managing Director of Zangalo Commercial Enterprise Limited, Alhaji Lukman Rotimi Shittu, has declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing the administration’s achievements in its first term.

Alhaji Shittu, popularly known as “Zangalo” by industry stakeholders, also endorsed Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hazmat for Governor of Lagos State. He commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his performance and said Lagos would remain in safe hands under Dr. Hazmat’s leadership.

Speaking during a virtual meeting with officials of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), Alhaji Shittu pledged LASTCOC’s full support for the forthcoming Ports Road Clearance Operations scheduled to commence soon in Lagos.

He described the operation as a welcome development that will promote ease of doing business, restore traffic sanity and orderliness, and address the persistent menace of extortion and illegal checkpoints along the Apapa and Tin Can Port access roads.

“The numerous hardships truckers face due to incessant extortion by unauthorized personnel and other exploitative practices along the port corridors must end,” he said. “LASTCOC is ready to cooperate fully with PEBEC to achieve a more efficient and conducive operational environment for truckers and all maritime stakeholders.”

Alhaji Shittu urged truck operators to desist from indiscriminate parking and comply strictly with operational guidelines ahead of the enforcement exercise. He directed that:

1. Vehicles must be captured on the export manifest before proceeding to the ports.
2. Broken-down trucks should be removed immediately from access roads.
3. The approved single-lane arrangement must be strictly adhered to.
4. Operators must conduct themselves in an orderly manner throughout the exercise.

He warned that non-compliance would attract heavy penalties and sanctions during the enforcement operation.
