Emuhi Community Protests Killing of Resident Over Land Dispute in Edo State

By Elijah Adeyemi     -Angry residents of Emuhi Community in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State on Monday stormed the palace of the traditional ruler to protest the killing of a community member and the attack on other members of the Okolo family over a protracted land dispute.

Our correspondent report that the protest followed the fatal shooting of 47-year-old Sunday Okolo by suspected gunmen who allegedly invaded a disputed family land on April 16. Two other siblings, Joseph Okolo and Patience Okolo Ibadine, sustained serious injuries in separate attacks linked to the dispute and are currently receiving medical treatment, with Patience reportedly in critical condition.

Community members expressed outrage over the violence, alleging that several members of the Okolo family remain under threat.

It gathered that some relatives, including Omonigho Okolo and Mary Okolo, have gone into hiding after receiving information that they could be the next targets of the assailants.

The protesters called on security agencies and traditional authorities to intervene urgently and ensure justice for the victims.

Meanwhile, Police authority in the state has assured residents that investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible and prevent further attacks in the community.
