Princess Obianuju Leads FOCN Conference, Charges Emerging Leaders on Transformational Leadership

The Founder of Face of Congeniality Nigeria (FOCN) Leadership Academy, Hon. Princess Obianuju Duru, has charged emerging leaders to embrace transformational leadership, stressing the importance of self-discipline, mentorship, accountability and purposeful influence in driving sustainable societal development.
Duru gave the charge at the 2026 YOU Inspire Leadership Conference, held on Saturday, October 17, at the Nigerian National Merit Award House, Maitama, Abuja. The conference, themed “HADASSAH: The Culture of the Palace 2.0,” attracted distinguished leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs and young changemakers for deliberations on leadership, personal development, influence and Africa’s development prospects.
In her opening address, titled “Why Hadassah, Why Now?” Duru reflected on FOCN’s journey since its establishment in 2019, emphasising the need for self-governance, meaningful mentorship, strategic relationships and continuous personal development as essential foundations for effective leadership.
She explained that the palace symbolised more than power, status or privileged access, describing it as a place of preparation, character formation and responsibility. According to her, leadership should not be measured solely by the positions individuals occupy but by their capacity to create opportunities, inspire positive change and leave lasting value in their communities.
A major highlight of the conference was the keynote address delivered by Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, PhD, titled “Leadership Starts With Self: The Mastery of Self-Governance.” He underscored the importance of personal discipline, accountability and sound decision-making, maintaining that effective leadership begins with the ability to govern oneself before assuming responsibility for others.
Similarly, Dr. Teresa Ekaete Nwachukwu, in her presentation, “Leading Beyond the Position: Building People, Teams and Systems That Create Lasting Impact,” advocated a leadership approach centred on human capital development, effective teamwork and institutional sustainability. She stressed that successful leaders must build structures capable of delivering results beyond their individual tenure.
The conference also featured a panel session titled “The Culture of the Palace: Leadership, Influence and Building the Africa We Want.” Moderated by Ambassador Dr. Aisha Yusuf, the session featured Hon. Ebi Elezieanya, Hon. Bolanle Amina Sarumi Aliyu, Ambassador Nancy Olisakwe, Theo Godson and Emmanuel Ibok. The panellists examined the intersection of public service, enterprise, responsible influence and youth participation in shaping Africa’s future.
Beyond the intellectual engagements, FOCN Leadership Academy presented its reported achievements in leadership development, digital engagement and community outreach. According to figures provided by the organisation, its initiatives have reached more than 200,000 people, generated over one billion digital impressions and recorded more than 90,000 downloads of its FOCN Lookbook. The academy also reported that it had trained more than 450 people through its leadership and related development programmes.
The organisation further disclosed that its Hadassah Cohort 7 initiative brought together 67 participants from seven countries for a 12-week leadership development programme. Its community interventions reportedly included the distribution of 70 smartphones and 200 solar panels. The academy also stated that it was registered by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in 2025 as one of the ministry’s national women-focused non-governmental organisations.
Established in 2019, FOCN Leadership Academy has expanded from a beauty pageant platform into a leadership and personal development organisation focused on mentorship, women’s empowerment, leadership education, community engagement and opportunity creation. The conference featured performances by Amuta Stone and Vik Strings, while Lucy Ojite served as the event host and Ogechi Duru coordinated the red-carpet engagements. Olumide Onetakin delivered the concluding Palace Charge, urging participants to approach leadership with purpose, discipline and a commitment to service.
The conference concluded with a renewed call for emerging leaders to translate the knowledge gained into practical action and deploy their influence towards creating opportunities for others. Through the YOU Inspire Leadership Conference, FOCN reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing a generation of responsible and transformational leaders capable of strengthening institutions, advancing community development and contributing meaningfully to Africa’s future.
