Militants hunt for man, kill uncle for exposing their hideout

Some unknown gunmen suspected to be members of Niger Delta Militants went berserk on Monday October 24, 2022, killing one man identified as Stephen Odaro-Aghbonrie Oni Etu at his residence in Ugbihoko Quarters, Benin City, Edo State South-South Nigeria.
According to sources, the men stormed the residence looking for one Ofure Elvis Osemwengie, who they claimed had reported them to the security operatives and also revealed their hideout, a development they also claimed made the security operatives to attack and kill two of their leaders.
Elvis Osemwengie, a fisherman was said to have gone fishing earlier on a fateful day and accidentally bathed into the hideout of the militants who deal in bunkering and other illicit acts. Though he tried to hide, they eventually caught him and later released him since he appeared harmless as an innocent fisherman.
Elvis Osemwengie, it was gathered, thereafter reported the matter to the security operatives and also gave vivid description of the militants hideout to the security operatives, who later went to raid the spot, killing two leaders of the group in the process.
Source said when the group eventually got a hint that it was Elvis Osemwengie who reported them to the security operatives, they made a move to kill him but when he got information that the group were after him, he ran to his uncle, Stephen Odaro-Aghbonrie Oni Etu’s house for safety.
Source said the group got a hit again that Elvis Osemwengie is in Stephen Odaro-Aghbonrie Oni Etu’s, residence, hence they decided to storm the address on October 24, 2022. Unfortunately for Stephen Odaro-Aghbonrie Oni Etu, when the group got to his house, Elvis Osemwengie was not around, but asked him to produce Elvis Osemwengie.
Following Stephen Odaro-Aghbonrie Oni Etu’s inability to produce Elvis Osemwengie, the group shot him dead to send a signal to Elvis Osemwengie that they really mean business and that they will get him wherever go.
The source said Odaro-Aghbonrie Oni Etu dropped a message for Elvis Osemwengie before he finally died that the group vowed to locate and kill him wherever he may be.
Since the brutal killing, all efforts to apprehend the culprits by the security operatives have proved abortive. The Niger Delta Militants are known for kidnapping, killing and bunkering in the south-South part of Nigeria.
