Man Flees after Father’s Killing Over Land Rich in Mineral Resources

By Elijah Ade.      A Nigerian man, identified as Oyanna Monday Lawani, has reportedly fled his home after allegedly facing threats to his life following the killing of his father over a disputed parcel of land believed to contain valuable mineral resources.

Lawani’s current whereabouts are unknown, while concerns persist over his safety following a series of events that began with a dispute over his father’s land and allegedly escalated into threats against his own life.

According to sources, Lawani’s father reportedly owned a large expanse of land located in Akoko Edo in which the government representative reportedly discovered natural resources, including granite and limestone.

Sources said the government representative subsequently asked his father to release the property, but his father refused to surrender the land. The refusal, according to sources was followed by tragedy in 2019 when his father was allegedly killed by unidentified members of the community.

The death reportedly marked the beginning of a struggle that would eventually put Lawani’s own life in danger. It was gathered that his father had reported the matter to the police before his death. However, the police allegedly dismissed the complaint as a family matter and failed to intervene.

It was gathered that influential people within the community were involved in the dispute, leaving him with little confidence that he could obtain protection against those he believed were threatening him.

Sources said following his father’s death, Lawani became the owner of the disputed property as his father’s next of kin. However, rather than bringing an end to the dispute, his inheritance allegedly made him a target.

It was gathered that members of the community began threatening Lawani and pursuing him over the land, forcing him to flee for his life.

According to sources, in a desperate attempt to escape those allegedly chasing him, Lawani jumped from a three-storey building and reportedly landed on his feet but was unable to move and subsequently collapsed.

Source said he was later taken to a secret, secure location, where his wife came to collect him and take him to Lagos.

A source who doesn’t want his name specifically told our correspondent that though nobody currently knows his whereabouts, he feared that returning will expose him to further danger with the fear that he could be killed if he returned.

The circumstances surrounding his father’s reported killing and the identities of those allegedly responsible till date have not been unrivalled.

With his whereabouts currently unknown, questions remain about his safety.
